I’d love for us to normalize being still.
When did busying ourselves with an overcrowded schedule become a badge of honor while stillness, delayed responses, and open days became synonymous with laziness?
Stillness often reveals how uncomfortable we are in silence. Stillness is an unwavering, penetrative gaze, but when you’ve made it a regular practice to stare back into the void it shapeshifts into a supportive space for your overall wellness.
In yoga modalities such as yin and restorative, we practice being physically still as a conduit to helping our minds become still too. Although these yoga styles aren’t physically demanding, they can be an incredible mental challenge. Upon arriving onto your mat or meditation cushion to be still, the stages your body and mind go through are predictable. But just as with the five stages of grief, the five stages of being still can happen in any order and don’t have to move from one stage to the next.
